As an Olympian I’ve always had a keen sense of how my body reacts to training. Once I turned 40, I started to realize that simply going to the gym to lift or run on the treadmill was not giving me the results that I was looking for. I was not recovering as quickly thus I wasn’t able to work out with same intensity I was used to. I put on weight and suffered the side effects of multiple injuries, high blood pressure and boredom with my workouts. Thankfully, I was introduced to Method Yoga by Reed Taylor. Method Yoga has literally transformed not only my body, but my mind and my eagerness to work out and improve. You can definitely fill your competitive drive with other members of the class or simply against yourself. Reed first pushes you to acquire the proper technique then challenges you to exceed pain and/or exertion barriers - which gives you an amazing sense of daily accomplishment. What I like about it most is the flow of each workout....
Interval Training is inspired by Reed’s D1 Football experience and training and is easily the most effective method to lose undesired body mass and reshape the body. Using only your body’s weight and a medicine ball, build your agility, speed, stamina and strength in rapid, sweat-inducing intervals. Come melt away your body fat while taking your athleticism to uncharted levels.
This training system is inspired by master coach Donald A. Chu Ph.D. and Steve Kenyon, strength and conditioning coach, at Sacramento State University. While attending Sacramento State University on a football scholarship we used medicine balls to train the body plyometrically to develop the attribute of “Power” (the ability to exert force and create rapid or ballistic forceful movement and muscular endurance). Plyometric movement is common in sports and athletic training when in generating inertia we have to decelerate the weight near the end range of motion and then accelerate in another direction. We often have to accelerate very quickly and equally importance we have to learn how to decelerate quickly. The force generated in...
Here is what a few of the recent participants had to say about Method Yoga TRANSFORM NOW!
Next month will mark one year of training with Reed. I have been a gym rat off and on since high school and competitive sports ended for me a long time ago. I hit my 30s and realized I was bored, unmotivated and to be honest totally out of shape despite my daily "workouts." I wandered into Reed's class one Monday because the treadmills were taken. I have not gotten back on a treadmill since and have not lifted weights over 10lbs. But I have lost 15lbs, gained strength I didn't have even at 20 and learned that yoga is a killer workout if you have the right teacher. Reeds approach to fitness is unlike what I have seen before. Each day is as challenging as the last, I still sweat as much as I did day one! If you invest in the process your body will progress. Commit to this lifestyle and you will live better....

Power Yoga, the new School
Method Yoga is designed for those interested in yoga and fitness. Because we are confined to this body, how we move and train is essential to our wellbeing and success. Any movement system that lacks key insight gained from the biological sciences and modern athletic training principles is outdated and omits key features necessary for students to excel in today’s complex world. Method Yoga represents the current drive of Integral theory though movement and bodily training. Method Yoga is an inclusive system that dissolves the boundaries that isolate and separate various approaches that lead to fragmentation and division. Disunity occurs through recognizing differences and forgetting the implicit unity as well as key drivers. Method Yoga offers the student a process of development and transformation by uniting methodologies of old and new so one begins to experience true liberation, wholeness and actualization which is the definition and purpose of “yoga”.
Method Yoga is a result of doing decades of intense training and research, and leading dozens of teacher trainings in the...

Purpose: Core strength/integration, preventative low back care, increased joint mobility
Training tools: Training mat, blocks
Pilates method was created by Joseph Pilates a German boxer and Circus performer who immigrated to the US in 1925 which emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement.
This training segment is based on the body of work outlined in Joseph Pilates seminal book Contrology that was published in the 1920 and adapted to the context of “advanced yoga practice.” Meaning in many cases I chose not to follow the exact Pilates teachings because they were insignificant to my goal or were extraneous or unnecessary. If you are a classically trained Pilates teacher this could be apparent.
I became extremely excited in Pilates in 1996 as I sought to reduce pain for old football injuries and create joint mobility. I began training with simple mat exercised and...
All of life’s difficulties require courage and hope to deal with. It also helps to have an idea or mantra that inspires it all and ties it all together in a holistic way. Make no mistake we are in a crisis, over 30 million Americans living with chronic low back pain, over 20 million people suffering from addiction to drugs and alcohol and recent reports estimating over weight and obese of adults and teens to 100-120 million and rising. A third of the population is struggling every day with these three issues alone. The fact of the matter is we must awaken to the harsh reality of these situations nobody wants to talk about.
The process of focused Self-development begins again with a new evaluation, new goals, and a new program that will cause another metamorphosis. This process looks something like this. It’s like a Ferris Wheel at the time when you were a child. The top of the wheel is where your goals are. The top of the wheel seems so far away when...
A Developmental Process
It is helpful to see development as a process if you desire deep and lasting change and true transformation. Method Yoga training is a process oriented system that has specific developmental phases or levels of training.
The way we move our body is directly related to the way we experience life. Changes occur in relation to the energy, intensity and duration of the training regimen.
The more in tune we are with the forces of transformation and the developmental process and the more intentional we are about them, the more fully and dynamically we will experience progress.
It is very clear to me that on a physical level yoga would be considered “skill” training. In this context skilled means the ability to orchestrate one or more of the main aspects of fitness, (strength, stamina, flexibility and agility) with balance and coordination so one moves in a skillful, controlled, focused manner. If one is deficient or has severe unbalances in any areas of fitness it makes the task of learning the new skills...
As an active child, I was motivated athletically and began swimming competitively with my twin brother when I was 6 years old. When I was 10 my mother took us on a month-long European vacation. After seeing the Coliseum and the ruins and much of Rome’s historical sites we drove to Florence, where I had an unbelievable experience: I met my first Hero.
I walked into a large hall of the Academia and saw a massive male figure carved out of marble. It was the statue of David, the work of Michelangelo. I was entranced by the massive muscular figure. As I walked around the figure, I noticed every detail, every definition of every line of muscle, bone and tendon. My mother read us the story of David. She told us all the facts about the giant figure as we looked down at the program and then back up to the petrified figure.
Upon returning from that amazing trip the experience of viewing David never left my mind. I found the...
I want to tell you my story to set a proper context for this training program so you understand exactly how much care has been put into this training program to make it highly transformative and extremely safe from injuries.
At 22, I battled chronic pain as a result of a collegiate football career and a decade of high impact athletic training. I could hardly stand being in my body. Much of this pain was caused by using sound training methods to develop strength, power, speed, quickness and my vertical leap but in an unbalanced way. Too much of a good thing can work against you if you aren’t extremely careful. I loved jump training, plyometric training and sprint training. I jumped off boxes, I jumped off fences, I even jumped off my parent's green house to develop explosive lower body power. I bought every book I could by experts and found Don Chu, a leading authority. I read books on athletic and plyometric training and I did what they said. I found jump...
I'd like to talk about Reed Taylor and his influence on my practice and what we're about at Asta Yoga. I met Reed in 2001, he was my first yoga instructor and he motivated and inspired me to maintain and develop my practice while living in Miami Beach where I met him and he had Its Yoga Miami. Besides becoming a big brother and unconditional friend, he also turned out to be one of the best trainers that I've had in this discipline and a great supporting part when opening Asta Yoga. Reed's yoga practice has been propelled to higher levels by merging together his Yoga experience, fitness trainer talents and Circus arts. He delivers a solid class focused on developing physical capacities and getting results faster through more advanced methods that he has learned and created himself. His "Method Yoga" is a compilation of Yoga, fitness, circus arts and other techniques that he has been putting together for years and that he is now making available to those who are interested in faster advancement...
Millions of people are benefiting from the positive effects of yoga. They experience a decrease in anxiety, weight loss, a more positive outlook, well-being, a spiritual connection, even a sense of community.
Or, maybe you went to a yoga class and weren’t sold on it. Maybe it was too foreign or the chanting threw you off. Maybe you had a bad experience with a teacher or didn’t like the group setting. Maybe the class was too hard and you were frustrated or you experienced an injury.
Hello, I’m Reed Taylor. I live in San Francisco and am a high performance specialist. I lead yoga teacher trainings here and abroad and have created a training system to help you transform. I call it Method Yoga.
Forget what you know about yoga. Let’s focus instead on what a regular practice can do for you. Set aside the super star yoga brands and teachers. What do you need? What are your goals? How can Method Yoga help transform you?
Through modern science, genetics, nutrition and kinesiology, we...

Rocket Vinyasa, Rocket Teacher Training
Sun Salutation- This segment of the class is the entry way or door to the spiritual domain. It’s the time when we disengages from the material world and plug into the cosmic circuit board. Its where we shift from the thinking personal mind to the transpersonal feeling body/mind. As we move further and further away form the personal mind we pay more attention to the moment. It not the time to think, judge, scan the room, or contemplate. Consume yourself in the breath, its qualities and its coordination to the movements. Stoke the fire and take the prana fuel that will be needed for the journey.
Standing series-The standing series is an opportunity to further study posture and vinyasa. The master series’ method is to do all of the postures on one side or right side first, then the left, to develop a symmetry of strength and flexibility while continuing to heat the body. Allow yourself to continue to keep the focus on the breath. Stay...
